Peasant Art Study Day in Haslemere

UK EVENT

Wed 05 Sep 2018

Haslemere Educational Museum can display only a fraction of the 600 traditional craft items, chiefly from Scandinavia and Central Europe, collected by the Rev. Gerald S. Davies around 1885–1908. This Study Day offers a rare opportunity to view usually unseen pieces. Collections Manager Lindsay Moreton will introduce us to the works and to the personalities behind the local craft industry that they inspired. After lunch we will walk to St Christopher’s Church (Charles Spooner, 1903) and view it with Haslemere historian Catherine Eyre who will then guide us around Foundry Meadow, once the focus of the town’s own 'Peasant Art Society'.
