Applications are open for the V&A’s inaugural fellowship in memory of DAS member Dr Clive Wainwright (1942–1999), scholar, antiquary and museum curator, and expert on 19th-century design. The fellowship (£6,000 for three months full time or six months part time) offers the chance to undertake an independent research project on an aspect of British furniture or interiors from the period 1850–1900. Topics with a global dimension would be welcome.
The successful applicant must be eligible to work in the UK. They will make use of the V&A’s collection, archives and library resources in this field, actively engage with V&A staff and contribute new knowledge to V&A catalogue records and documentation.
The deadline for application is 18 September 2026, with interview/assessment day 8 October 2026 and a potential start date from November 2026 to January 2027. Details are available on the website Research Fellowship in memory of Clive Wainwright
