Visit to Three Oxford Colleges

UK EVENT

Tue 23 May 2017

In the morning we will have a privileged visit to St Cross College to see their impressive collection of late 19th and early 20th-century decorative arts (the subject of an article by Jennifer Hawkins Opie in Journal 40). A light lunch at Lady Margaret Hall will be followed by a private tour with DAS member Nicholas Shrimpton. The College has an outstanding group of 19th- and 20th-century neo-classical buildings. There will be an opportunity to see the Linda Grier collection of paintings in the Senior Common Room. Finally we visit Campion Hall, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens (completed 1936). It houses an important collection of religious art, including Stations of the Cross by Frank Brangwyn and colourful murals by Charles Mahoney (1903–68).
