LEGACIES

You could help support the decorative arts with a legacy to the Decorative Arts Society.

The Decorative Arts Society (DAS) depends for its income entirely on members and supporters. Please consider leaving the DAS a legacy in your will. The DAS is a registered charity and in the UK all legacies to it are exempt from inheritance tax without limit. Legacies can take the form of a lump sum or the residue or a fraction of your estate.

Legacies to the DAS will not be spent on administrative costs but will be allocated to the 40th Anniversary Fund (or equivalent) to support the decorative arts with, for example, grants to museums for acquisitions or collections access projects and to scholars for travel and research. The DAS website gives more information on this fund and past awardees. Benefactors can, of course, stipulate how they would like their bequests directed within the parameters of the interests of the DAS.

The following would be a suitable form of wording to send to your solicitor for inclusion in your will or adding a codicil to an existing one: “I bequeath to the Decorative Arts Society (Registered Charity Number 271838), PO Box 136, Woodbridge, Suffolk IP12 1TG a legacy of ………. free of all taxes.”

The Honorary Treasurer of the DAS is always happy to discuss potential legacies with benefactors and these should also be discussed with your solicitor. To contact the DAS regarding a legacy please email us at chairdas@gmail.com.
