Zoom lecture by Clive Edwards, at 6.00 pm (London). Collinson & Lock are recognised as a classic producer of later 19th-century art furniture. This talk will look at two aspects of the partnership’s decorative work – painted cabinets and marquetry decoration. Although the firm produced a very wide range of furniture and interior designs, it is these two aspects that made them famous. They show two approaches to decorative furniture design, one in the early years of the business that reflected an avant-garde tendency, the other a later and more cultivated and élite style.
