PAPER CREATION WORKSHOP AT LINNEAN SOCIETY, LONDON
Tuesday 20 October 2026

Cabinets of Curiosity is a hands-on creative workshop which uses papers decorated with natural history images as a starting point. Inspired by 18th and 19th century papers in the Linnean Society's historic collections, participants will experiment with gelli plate image-transfer techniques to print their own patterned papers. Then simple folding techniques will be used to construct a miniature three-section cabinet for personal natural-history treasures.
The workshop combines historic design, paper arts and natural history, and is suitable for those who have done some printing as well as beginners. During the workshop, participants will view examples from the Linnean Society's collections and discover the stories behind these fascinating papers. Attendees are also invited to bring ideas from their own areas of interest. Workshop leader Catherine Rye is a textile and mixed-media artist inspired by gardens, plants and natural history.
The workshop is on Tuesday, 17 November from 14.00–17.00. Tickets cost £49.46 or £44.58 for concessions.
