PLAYING WITH FIRE: EDMUND DE WAAL AND AXEL SALTO AT THE HEPWORTH GALLERY WAKEFIELD

Curated by artist and author Edmund de Waal, the first major exhibition of acclaimed Danish ceramicist and polymath Axel Salto, considered one of the greatest masters of 20th-century ceramic art, has arrived at the Hepworth. Salto produced an extraordinary body of ceramic work alongside paintings, woodcuts, drawings, book illustrations and textiles, which are displayed with a major new installation by de Waal. Hepworth curator Dr Abi Shapiro will take us on a guided tour. Members will also have the opportunity to visit the Hepworth’s other galleries and current exhibitions including Elizabeth Fritsch’s Otherworldly Vessels and Barbara Hepworth’s Sculpture with Colour (Oval Form) Pale Blue and Red, which was recently saved for the nation.
