ZOOM LECTURE

Sun 07 Dec 2025

Zoom lecture by Jonathan Gray at 6.00 pm (London).

Jonathan Gray, President of the English Ceramic Circle, will talk about the life and career of Horace Elliott (1851–1938), based on his recent publication. Elliott was a London-based designer who worked in ceramics, wood/bamboo and metal. He opened his first retail premises in Bayswater/Knightsbridge from 1885, moving to Chelsea and finally Streatham. Elliott didn't own a ceramic factory - instead he worked with a dozen or more potters including Ewenny, Denby and Brannam. He supplied tobacco jars to Alfred Dunhill and brush pots to Lord Baden-Powell. He registered 34 designs between 1886–1906, including furniture.
