A VISIT TO BUSHEY MUSEUM AND A FORMER ARTIST’S STUDIO
UK EVENT
Wed 11 Mar 2026
Following an extensive gift by Leighton House of pottery made at Bushey Heath Pottery in the 1920s by Fred Passenger, formerly with William De Morgan, the DAS recently funded an additional display case to house this continually expanding collection. Last year the DAS also assisted the acquisition of enamel work by Sir Hubert Herkomer. After tea/coffee on arrival and before viewing the Museum we will have a handling session of a selection of these items and other craft discoveries including those arising from the Myrtle Broome, Artist and Egyptologist exhibition.
After lunch nearby we will walk a short distance to view the former studio and home of the Misses Tarver, Herkomer students, now occupied by a descendant of stained-glass artist John B. Carr (see Mike Franks in DAS Journal 2023). In addition to fragments of Carr’s work we will explore the fascinating late Victorian/Edwardian residual accumulations of his son, who was a dealer and auctioneer.
The visit is from 11.00 to 15.00 and the cost is £36 (not including lunch). Please contact Christopher Jordan if you would like to book a place on this visit.
