50TH ANNIVERSARY SYMPOSIUM, LONDON

50TH ANNIVERSARY SYMPOSIUM, LONDON

UK EVENT

Sat 31 May 2025

The symposium will be a day of celebration with talks by leading historians, curators and dealers marking the 50th anniversary of the DAS. One focus will be on how the Society was established at the Brighton Museum and the part played by Martin Battersby and others. Another strand will examine how dealers played a crucial role in promoting the field of post-1850 decorative arts as they tracked down works by leading designers.

The afternoon session will include papers on dress, silver, furniture and studio pottery, reflecting some of the interests of Society members. Several short papers delivered by the Society’s New Voices group will follow. Finally, there will be a chance for those attending to reminisce and share memorable DAS events and trips. The symposium concludes with a wine reception. The cost is £50 to include the reception or £15 for online attendance including viewing of the lectures on demand.
